Retired State Police Sgt. Alan Joubert stands overlooking Interstate 91 as it traffic flows between Longmeadow and Springfield. Joubert was the first responder along I-91 south in Longmeadow on Nov. 9, 1998, when 16-year-old Ashley Turniak died along the roadside after falling or being pushed from a moving car. Her death, which remains unsolved, has haunted the trooper for the past quarter century. (Hoang 'Leon' Nguyen / The Republican)
