Compiling this list about things I’ll miss about summer was bittersweet because we’re at the end of August and this is when I get that feeling of melancholy that comes for me at the end of every August.

I had some small talk with a couple women in the laundromat last week. I’d gone in to wash my sleeping bag and a couple comforters. Both women were lamenting how warm it was and how they couldn’t wait for summer to end. I felt just the opposite. I was enjoying the heat and wishing it would bleed into November.

It’s not that I don’t find pleasure in the other seasons.

The vibrant colors of autumn leaves, apple picking, pumpkin spice wafting through the air, leaves crunching underfoot while hiking a wooded trail in the cool fall air.

Wintertime brings cozy moments with books, hot cocoa with a dollop of whipped cream, the sparkle of the holiday, how beautiful it is to walk in the quiet of freshly falling snow.

Hope springs eternal with Spring. All the really cold days and icy moments of winter are put to rest and in their place crocus, daffodils, tulips, the smell of the wet soil and all the possibility of new growth. Daylight begins to lengthen and if it’s spring, can summer be far ahead?

I like summer the best. For me, it feels like the easiest season. Even on the worst days of summer, when the humidity is raging, and temperatures are 90 plus, for me, it is a joy to simply sit under a large shady tree and take in…summertime.

So, here’s my partial list of things I’ll miss about summer:

Yea, this is an actual photo of the temperature in my living room at my old apartment in Quincy. That’s Fahrenheit. I don’t care how hot it is, I love summer.

Ain’t she a beauty!

My tent in my yard. It leaked this year. Gotta get a new one.

I do wash my feet every night before I go to bed. (Good lord, these feet look like I’ve been embalmed!)

Where the deer go to roam. That part of the lawn belongs to my awesome neighbors. My half does not look that green.

I grew these from one of those bags of wildflower seeds. So pretty.

This is a neighbor’s pear tree. Lovely.

My friend John Parker and I went to see Joe Perry at the Leader Bank Pavilion this summer. Joe Perry rocked it up!

This place has CINNAMON SOFT SERVE!!!! And it’s close to me, in West Bridgewater!

I got this five years ago. Before I got my truck I didn’t have a way to transport it to the pond. Used it a couple times this year. Awesome!!
