Rust has a new Hardcore Mode on PC, and fans are getting to grips with the more challenging rules, as well as finding out what has been removed.

The new mode is part of the September update that was released earlier today, and fans will need to make sure they have patched their game before being able to access the new stuff included.

And the good news for everyone who wants to check out the latest addition to Rust on PC can do so with the full rundown of the rules shared by developers Facepunch Studio.

Rust Hardcore mode was added on PC on Thursday, September 1, 2022, and peels away many of the game’s latest features.

Rust is already known for its brutal PvP and game cycle, so Hardcore Mode looks set to be the biggest test around for players. It should be noted that Rust Hardcore is a separate addition to the game, meaning it won’t replace the normal modes available on servers.

For a start, the biggest change in Rust Hardcore Mode is the removal of the in-game map, with the development team going to great lengths to make it as difficult as possible to access location information.

Maps have disappeared in Hardcore, alongside safezones, Global Chat and the team system.

Something things have also been added, including Local chat with a 100m range, the limit of five sleeping bags & beds on a server, and an In-game changelog that can be found in the top left of inventory.

The official items removed from Rust Hardcore Mode include the following items and features:

Contact system Compass Crawling when wounded Global chat Rust+ Team system Map MLRS Safe zones

A message from Facepunch Studios explains: “We believe this is a good starting place for a less forgiving game mode of Rust, and we will continue to iterate and improve on it moving forward.

“If you’re a server owner and wish to enable hardcore use the following var in your server startup config “-gamemode hardcore”. 10 new official servers will be launching today with this new game mode. If demand exceeds capacity we’ll be launching more servers.”
