Regardless of whether you’re a new parent or you’ve got enough kids for a football team by now, every parent can agree that your baby getting a good night’s sleep is important for everyone.

And as yet another heatwave hits the UK, the soaring heat can certainly add extra stress to bedtime.

You may worry about what to put your bundle of joy in for bed, to help keep them comfortable and cool but also to reduce the risk of overheating and heatstroke.

When it comes to keeping your little one just that at nighttime, you’ll need to make sure they are wearing appropriate bedclothes, to ensure they’re getting the best sleep possible.

Here’s what to dress them in as you put them down for bedtime…

What’s appropriate for your baby will depend on what the weather is like, and what the room temperature is.

What you should always consider when preparing your child for sleep is that the ideal temperature for a baby’s room is between 16°C and 20°C, as stated by the NHS.

Always start by dressing your little one in a vest.

If it’s particularly warm, you can then pop them in a swaddle or light sleep bag to keep them cosy just in their vest and nappy.

To check if your baby is too hot, place two fingers on your baby’s tummy, neck or back to see if they’re sweating, feeling hot or clammy.

If your little one is too hot, then you might want to consider turning on a fan and stripping back their nightwear.

On the flipside, signs your baby is too cold could include them becoming more lethargic or slower to be responsive.
